A massive drone attack on Russia's Moscow region overnight into Aug. 16 sparked fires at the country's largest Wildberries warehouse in Podolsk and a second logistics complex in Domodedovo, killing one person and injuring at least six others, according to regional Gov. Andrey Vorobyov.
"Tonight, the Moscow region came under one of the most massive drone attacks in recent times. Overnight, air defense forces and electronic warfare systems shot down and suppressed 187 drones in Domodedovo, Podolsk, Stupino, Odintsovo, Naro-Fominsk, Ramenskoye, Chekhov, Kolomna, Kashira and Yegoryevsk," Vorobyov wrote on Telegram.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin wrote on Telegram that between Saturday evening and 6:30 local time Sunday, 600 UAVs flew toward the Moscow region, 201 of which were destroyed, with emergency services working at the crash sites.
Wildberries said on Telegram that a fire broke out "due to an attack on the company's logistics facility in Podolsk," adding that an evacuation had been carried out in advance in line with safety requirements and that "logistics chains have been restructured, and the receipt of deliveries and shipment of orders are being carried out at other facilities."
Vorobyov said the fire at the Wildberries warehouse in the Koledino industrial park in Podolsk began after a drone struck the site.
"At the moment of the attack, employees had been moved to shelter; none of them were injured," he said.
Ukrainian open-source monitoring account ASTRA, which is labeled as a "foreign agent" by Moscow, identified the burning facility as Wildberries' largest logistics complex, located at 20 Troitskaya Street in the village of Koledino, Podolsk, with a warehouse area of more than 200,000 square meters.
ASTRA noted that a neighboring logistics complex, "Koledino3PL," had also caught fire following a Ukrainian attack on July 28.
A second fire broke out at a warehouse storing medications in Domodedovo, according to Vorobyov, with no injuries reported there as of preliminary information.
ASTRA separately identified the site as Warehouse No. 15 within the "Severnoye Domodedovo" sorting and logistics complex.
An 83-year-old man was killed in the Ramenskoye municipal district after a drone fell on a private home, Vorobyov said.
"My sincere condolences to his family and loved ones," he wrote.
Three people were injured in Podolsk: one person sustained shrapnel wounds in the SNT "Lesnoy" area, and two others were injured by falling drone debris near the M-2 highway and in the settlement of Zheleznodorozhny, according to Vorobyov.
In Klimovsk, a truck driver required medical attention for a hand injury, and a resident of Zheleznodorozhny sustained a shoulder injury, Vorobyov said, adding that none of the injuries were life-threatening and that all those affected were receiving necessary medical care.
Beyond the Wildberries warehouse fire, damage in Podolsk included a private home in the SNT "Lesnoy" area, a car in Klimovsk, and a power line in the "Matveyevskoye" cottage community, according to Vorobyov.
In Domodedovo, in addition to the medication warehouse fire, several residential buildings were damaged, including a balcony fire in one building and wall and window damage in others, as well as two private homes and the roof of a shopping center, he said.
In Kashira, a newly built police station was damaged; in Voskresensk, individual structures at an industrial site were damaged, with no injuries reported at either location, according to Vorobyov.
In Chekhov, a private home in the settlement of Meshcherskoye and a church school building in the village of Yakshino were damaged.
In Stupino, a bathhouse was destroyed after a drone crashed onto the grounds of a garden association, Vorobyov said.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin separately reported three people injured near the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD) area, according to reports citing ASTRA. All emergency and operational services were working in an enhanced regime, Vorobyov said, adding that further updates would follow.
The Koledino strike is the latest in a monthslong Ukrainian campaign targeting Wildberries logistics facilities across Russia, which Kyiv has said supply the Russian military with drone parts and other sanctioned components.
Previous strikes have hit Wildberries warehouses in the Tambov, Krasnodar, Stavropol, Ryazan, Leningrad, Vladimir, Tver and Sverdlovsk regions in recent weeks, with casualties reported in several incidents.
Ukraine has targeted nearly two dozen Wildberries logistics centers since mid-July, and the strikes have eliminated a significant share of the company's storage capacity.
Wildberries is separately planning to build 260,000 square meters of new warehouse space in Kazakhstan, with construction expected to finish in early 2027.
