Russia and China are discussing a new project to increase Russian gas supplies to China, including the Power of Baikal route, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said Friday.
“We are preparing to launch the Far Eastern route and continuing dialogue on other promising routes for Russian gas supplies to China, including the Power of Baikal project,” Novak said, according to Russian news agency Tass.
He made the remarks during a Russian-Chinese energy meeting on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum in the Russian port city of Vladivostok.
Novak said Russian gas exports through the Power of Siberia pipeline are steadily increasing as Moscow and Beijing expand their energy cooperation.
Russia on Wednesday renamed the second phase of the Power of Siberia project as Power of Baikal.
The project is intended to supply China with 50 billion cubic meters of Russian gas annually through Mongolia.
Novak also said Russia and China are developing a joint project to extract and liquefy gas in the Arctic.
The two countries are also working on a Baltic complex designed to process ethane-containing gas.
Novak said Moscow is also ready to discuss new nuclear energy projects with Beijing.
He added that Russia is prepared to cooperate with China on specialist training and research involving advanced nuclear technologies.
