Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday that the next round of talks involving Russia, Ukraine, and the United States could be held in Istanbul.
Speaking at a press briefing in Moscow, Peskov said all participants in the negotiations view Istanbul positively as a venue for further consultations.
“Of course, the Istanbul option exists, and all parties have a very positive attitude towards it,” he said, adding that discussions could continue in the Turkish city.
Peskov also expressed gratitude to the United Arab Emirates for its role in facilitating earlier rounds of talks.
“Of course, everyone highly appreciates the atmosphere that the Emirati authorities created for these trilateral negotiations, and everyone remains grateful to the leadership of the United Arab Emirates for their assistance in organizing the negotiation process,” he said.
Commenting on internet outages reported in parts of Russia, Peskov said the disruptions would continue as long as necessary to ensure security.
“They will continue as long as necessary to ensure safety,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Monday that peace talks with Russia scheduled for this week were postponed at the request of the United States due to the escalating conflict involving Iran.
Writing on the social media platform X, Zelenskyy said Ukraine remains ready to hold the meeting at any time.
“We are ready for the meeting at any moment, in a format that can help and that will be realistic in terms of ending the war,” he said.
“At the moment, the partners’ priority and all attention are focused on the situation around Iran, and because of this, the meeting that had been planned for this week is being postponed at the proposal of the American side,” he added.
Zelenskyy said Kyiv remains in constant contact with Washington.
“After holding a meeting with the Ukrainian negotiating team, I instructed them to once again communicate with the American negotiators to reiterate our readiness for strategic joint work for security and, in particular, protection against strike drones, and to confirm our readiness to work substantively toward ending Russia’s war against Ukraine,” he said.
He also accused Russia of trying to “manipulate” tensions in the Middle East and the Gulf region to benefit its war effort.
Russia, Ukraine and the United States previously held three rounds of peace talks on Jan. 23-24, Feb. 4-5, and Feb. 17-18. The first two rounds took place in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, while the third was held in Geneva, Switzerland.
