The Kremlin said the resolution of the territorial issue included in the formula developed during the Alaska summit between Russia and the United States is of key importance for Moscow.

Speaking to journalists in Moscow, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov referred to last week’s trilateral talks between Russia, the United States and Ukraine held in Abu Dhabi.

Peskov said it would be wrong to expect the first round of contacts to be highly productive, describing the subject matter as extremely complex. He said difficult issues are on the agenda, but added that the constructive start of the talks is a positive sign and that serious work will continue.

He stressed the importance of adhering to the understanding reached at the summit held last year in Anchorage, Alaska, between Russia and the United States.

“The resolution of the territorial issue, which is part of the formula developed in Anchorage, is of great importance to us. This is our consistent position,” Peskov said. He added that trilateral talks between Russia, the United States and Ukraine will continue next week.

US-Iran tensions and regional stability

Peskov said Russian President Vladimir Putin is not planning a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, noting that such contact could be quickly arranged through communication channels if necessary.

Commenting on the possibility of a U.S. attack on Iran, Peskov said such a move could destabilize the situation in the region.

He said Russia is making efforts to reduce tensions and called on all parties to act with restraint and focus on resolving current issues through peaceful negotiations.

Relations with Venezuela and Cuba

Peskov said Russia remains in constant contact with Venezuela and has investments and ongoing projects there.

He added that the Venezuelan government has emphasized the priority of developing mutually beneficial relations with Russia.

He also described U.S. efforts to impose a blockade on Cuba as concerning and stressed that Russia values its relations with the country.
