Sudanese Foreign Minister Muhyiddin Salim called for an end to foreign interference and outside support for parties to the country's civil war, saying such steps were necessary to halt the fighting and prevent renewed conflict.
Speaking at the 81st session of the U.N. General Assembly in New York, Salim said Sudan needed what he described as a just solution that would end the war and prevent future hostilities.
He also called for the disarmament of some groups operating in Sudan and said weapons should be under the exclusive control of the state.
Salim said the U.S. had denied a visa to Sudanese Sovereignty Council Chairman and army commander Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, preventing him from attending high-level meetings during the U.N. General Assembly.
Reports in international media last week, citing diplomatic sources, said the U.S. administration had rejected Burhan's visa request to attend the General Assembly.
Sudan has been engulfed in fighting between the army and the Rapid Support Forces since April 2023.
According to the U.N. and international organizations, the conflict has created a major humanitarian crisis, displaced millions of people and killed large numbers of civilians.
