Social media influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan were arrested Saturday in Miami as British prosecutors filed extensive new charges against them, including rape, sex trafficking, and offenses relating to indecent images of a child, and sought their extradition to the United Kingdom.
The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed the arrest of 39-year-old Andrew Tate, a self-described misogynist, and his 38-year-old brother but said the arrest warrant was sealed and it could not disclose the charges.
A Justice Department spokesperson said U.S. Marshals in the Southern District of Florida arrested the brothers "pursuant to extradition proceedings," adding the arrests "were made in accordance with the treaties and law enforcement agreements governing Justice Department extraditions."
The brothers are expected to appear in federal court in Miami early this week, according to a person familiar with the matter cited by The Associated Press (AP).
Britain's Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said in its statement that Andrew Tate faces 42 charges and Tristan Tate faces 17, bringing the total to 59.
According to the CPS, Andrew Tate faces seven additional counts of rape, three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and 19 charges related to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography, in addition to a charge of profiting from prostitution.
Tristan Tate faces one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation.
"We have decided to prosecute Andrew and Tristan Tate for further offenses, including rape, arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation and offenses relating to indecent images of a child," said Malcolm McHaffie, head of the CPS's Special Crime Division.
"These charging decisions followed receipt of a further file of evidence from Bedfordshire Police and bring the total number of alleged victims in this case to seven."
The alleged offenses are said to have occurred between July 2010 and August 2017 in the East of England region, north of London, where the brothers grew up.
Bedfordshire Assistant Chief Constable Karena Thomas said: "Officers from our major crime unit have been working closely alongside the Crown Prosecution Service and both national and international law enforcement agencies as part of this complex investigation... There is no place for male violence against women and girls, and we will continue to work tirelessly to support victims and investigate all reports made to us."
Joseph McBride, an attorney representing the brothers, said in a statement that Andrew and Tristan Tate "are innocent," calling the new UK charges "filth and slander" intended to undermine defamation lawsuits the brothers have filed in the U.S.
"They're pulling out all the stops to make sure these guys never get their day in court," McBride told the AP.
"We are confident that once a competent judge sees the facts, and once the Department of Justice confronts this egregious abuse of its own authority, Andrew and Tristan Tate will walk free. America does not do Britain's political dirty work."
McBride separately said there is "a long-standing agreement between the UK and Romanian governments that the U.K. would not seek extradition while the Romanian proceedings are pending," arguing those proceedings remain ongoing.
"That agreement exists because no nation gets to trample the judicial sovereignty of another for political convenience," he said, according to CNN.
The new UK charges build on charges first confirmed against the brothers in 2025 relating to alleged crimes against three women.
Separately, Hertfordshire Police said earlier this year it was reopening a probe into rape and sexual assault allegations against Andrew Tate dating to 2014-2015.
Andrew Tate is also due to face a UK civil trial this year brought by four women, granted anonymity, who allege he subjected them to physical or sexual abuse between 2013 and 2015. Tate has denied the allegations, with his lawyers saying in a written defense that the claims are false and that all sexual activity was consensual.
The Tate brothers, dual U.S.-British citizens, moved to Romania in 2016 and were arrested there in December 2022 on accusations of trafficking women across Romania, the U.K., and the U.S. for sexual exploitation, allegations they have consistently denied.
That case has not gone forward due to what the AP described as legal and procedural problems.
Romanian authorities lifted travel restrictions on the brothers last year, and they flew to Florida in February 2025. Shortly afterward, Florida's attorney general announced a separate state criminal investigation into the brothers, led by the Office of Statewide Prosecution; the status of that investigation is unclear, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
The brothers are also accused of tax evasion and money laundering in the U.K.
Andrew Tate first reached mainstream attention as a contestant on the U.K. reality show "Big Brother" in 2016. He was removed after a video surfaced appearing to show him assaulting a woman.
He has since built an online following of more than 10 million people on X, promoting wealth, traditional masculinity, and what critics describe as aggressive misogyny, and has been banned from platforms including YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram for violating hate speech policies.
Both brothers are vocal supporters of U.S. President Donald Trump.
