Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Monday that he and his negotiating team were coordinating their “next steps” after weekend talks with U.S. and European officials aimed at reviving efforts to end the war with Russia.

Zelenskyy did not specify what the next steps would involve.

“I had a meeting with the Ukrainian negotiating team following our talks ... We are coordinating our next steps. We are preparing the next meetings and communications,” Zelenskyy wrote on Facebook.

U.S. negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin over the weekend in a renewed push to end the four-and-a-half-year war.

A senior Ukrainian presidential source told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that Witkoff and Kushner brought “more effective” proposals for ending the conflict, although neither Moscow nor Kyiv announced a breakthrough.

Zelenskyy: Territorial issues require leaders’ summit

Zelenskyy previously said Sunday that territorial disputes at the center of the war could only be resolved through direct talks between national leaders.

“I want to stick to my view that such complex issues can only be resolved at the level of leaders,” Zelenskyy said.

He reiterated his call for a face-to-face meeting with Putin.

Further meetings being prepared

The latest discussions came as Ukraine, the U.S. and European officials continued consultations over possible steps toward restarting negotiations.

Zelenskyy said his team was now preparing further meetings and communications following the weekend talks.
