Ukraine’s negotiating team will meet with US President Donald Trump’s envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff in the United States on Friday and Saturday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Thursday, as Washington seeks to revive stalled efforts to end the war with Russia.
Zelenskyy announced the meeting in a voice note to reporters, saying the talks are expected to last two days.
“The Ukrainian negotiating team is due to meet Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff in the US tomorrow,” he said.
Zelenskyy said his chief of staff, Kyrylo Budanov, will take part in the talks along with other senior Ukrainian officials: Rustem Umerov, Sergiy Kyslytsya and David Arakhamia.
He added that Kyiv hopes a European delegation will also join the discussions. “We are also counting on a European team to join our negotiating group,” Zelenskyy said.
The US-led effort to broker an end to the war in Ukraine has been largely stalled in recent months, with Washington’s attention shifting toward its conflict with Iran.
The pause has come even as Ukraine says Russia has escalated aerial attacks across the country.
Zelenskyy said last week that the United States wants to restart the process by brokering a new round of talks involving both Ukraine and Russia, with the goal of holding them by the end of October.
The Kremlin said last month that three-way talks aimed at ending the war could take place in October.
However, previous rounds of negotiations have failed to produce tangible progress, with Moscow unwilling to abandon what Kyiv and its allies have described as maximalist conditions for ending the fighting.
