Italy's education minister has stated that the use of phones and tablets in schools can lead to hostility toward staff and create conflicts

Cell phones and portable computers will no longer be permitted within Italian educational settings, including for instructional purposes, as per the latest directives in Italy.

According to Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara, the use of cell phones and tablets frequently fosters discord between pupils and educators, occasionally resulting in hostile behavior toward school personnel.

This prohibition will encompass students across kindergarten, elementary and middle school levels. It expands upon an existing prohibition on the non-educational use of intelligent gadgets that was established in Italy in 2007, although its enforcement has been inconsistent.

UNESCO recently suggested banning mobile phones from schools worldwide. The organization argued that these devices serve as distractions for students and have a negative affect onacademic performance.
