Türkiye exported $80.906 million worth of pistachios to 75 countries in the first nine months of 2026, according to data compiled by Anadolu Agency from the Southeastern Anatolia Exporters’ Associations.
Türkiye generated $178.203 million in revenue from pistachio exports to 94 countries last year.
Pistachio exports, which stood at $151.827 million in the January-September period of last year, fell to $80.906 million in the same period this year.
Italy was the top destination for Turkish pistachio exports in the first nine months, with $19.248 million.
Germany followed with $13.668 million, while Kazakhstan ranked third with $7.724 million.
Faruk Akbas, head of the Türkiye Pistachio Producers Central Union, told Anadolu Agency that pistachios are a strategic product with a wide range of uses, from food and desserts to snacks and chocolate.
Akbas said pistachio production naturally follows a cycle of one high-yield year and one low-yield year, adding that 2026 is considered an “off year” in the sector.
He said adverse weather last year also affected this year’s yield, while new season products have now been harvested and started entering the market.
Akbas said he expected exports to gain momentum as new season pistachios reach the market.
“Despite adverse weather conditions and the fact that this year is an off year, our producers completed their harvest. New season pistachios have begun entering the market,” he said.
“With these products included in exports, we expect our exports to rise further, especially in the final quarter of the year,” he added.
Akbas said efforts are continuing to increase Türkiye’s market share in global pistachio exports.
He said the distinctive aroma and quality of Turkish pistachios are increasing demand abroad.
In addition to preserving existing markets, Akbas said the sector is working to enter new markets.
He said the aim is to bring Turkish pistachios to consumers in more countries and diversify export destinations.
Akbas added that efforts targeting new markets are important for increasing the sector’s export potential.
