Visitor numbers at Malazgirt Castle have risen following restoration work at the site, according to Mus Culture and Tourism Director Mehmet Sengul.
During an inspection at the castle, Sengul said comprehensive restoration work had been completed with support from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, including landscaping as well as infrastructure and superstructure improvements.
He added that a flag was raised on a roughly 40-meter-high (131 feet) pole at the site and that the castle, which had undergone repairs during various periods throughout history, had now been restored to its original form.
Sengul said visitors can now tour the castle and gain a closer look at Malazgirt's deep-rooted history following the completion of the restoration work.
He said the goal of the project extends beyond preserving historical monuments, aiming also to boost tourism and ensure future generations become familiar with the region's heritage.
Sengul emphasized the importance of young people, as well as domestic and foreign tourists, learning about Malazgirt's history, noting that the 1071 Battle of Malazgirt and Sultan Alp Arslan hold a special place in the nation's memory.
He added that officials would continue promoting the historical significance of the region, where the gates of Anatolia opened to the Turks, to a wider audience.
