Türkiye and Greece, which have expanded cooperation in areas ranging from trade to tourism in recent years, are focusing on increasing bilateral trade volume to $10 billion, according to data compiled by Turkish news agency Anadolu.
The “positive agenda” process launched between the two neighboring countries is expected to accelerate cooperation in fields including health, environment, culture, arts, tourism, economy and trade. The initiative, aimed at boosting commercial relations, is planned to gain momentum through reciprocal visits and new cooperation agreements.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Greece in late 2023 for the fifth meeting of the High-Level Cooperation Council, held after a seven-year hiatus. During the meeting, the two sides set a target of increasing bilateral trade volume to $10 billion.
As contacts intensified, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited Türkiye in 2024, when opportunities for cooperation in trade, health and culture were discussed.
With relations continuing to improve, Mitsotakis is set to visit Türkiye on Feb. 11 for the sixth meeting of the High-Level Cooperation Council. The meeting will be held in Ankara under the co-chairmanship of President Erdogan and Prime Minister Mitsotakis, with the participation of relevant ministers.
Türkiye–Greece relations are expected to be reviewed in all their dimensions, and opportunities to advance cooperation between the two neighboring countries will be discussed.
The signing of various agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral relations is also expected during the visit.
Foreign trade between Türkiye and Greece has expanded steadily in recent years.
Türkiye’s exports to Greece totaled $3.1 billion in 2021 and increased to $3.3 billion in 2022. As diplomatic engagement intensified, exports rose to nearly $4.2 billion in 2023 and exceeded $4.8 billion in 2024.
In 2025, Türkiye’s exports to Greece reached nearly $5.4 billion, marking a 71.9% increase over the 2021–2025 period.
Türkiye’s imports from Greece fluctuated during the same period and stood at about $1.3 billion in 2025.
Total bilateral trade volume reached $5.3 billion in 2021 and rose to $5.5 billion in 2022. The volume increased further to $5.8 billion in 2023 and $6.2 billion in 2024. In 2025, foreign trade volume reached approximately $6.7 billion.
Türkiye maintained its exporter position vis-à-vis Greece, recording a foreign trade surplus of around $4.1 billion in 2025.
In Türkiye’s exports to Greece in 2025, mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation, bituminous substances and mineral waxes ranked first, with exports totaling $1.8 billion.
Iron and steel followed with exports valued at $422.7 million, while electrical machinery and equipment, including sound and television image recording and reproducing apparatus, amounted to $387.5 million.
