Elon Musk’s social media platform X is introducing a new marketplace called X Handle Marketplace, where inactive or unused usernames can be purchased.

This move positions X as a pioneer in turning digital identities into valuable assets.

Exclusive access for Premium Subscribers

The marketplace is open exclusively to Premium+ and Premium Business subscribers, highlighting X’s strategy to incentivize premium memberships. Usernames in the marketplace are divided into two categories: priority and rare.

According to CNBC, priority usernames, which typically include full names, multi-word phrases, or alphanumeric combinations, can be requested free of charge. Applications are reviewed within three business days.

Rare usernames: High-value digital assets

Rare usernames, which are shorter, more generic, or hold cultural significance, are considered premium digital assets and start at $2,500 (₺104,925).

Depending on demand and uniqueness, these usernames can reach seven-figure prices.

Rare usernames are strictly available for purchase by premium subscribers, and once acquired, they cannot be resold or transferred, reinforcing exclusivity and ownership.
