Istanbul, the historic metropolis straddling Europe and Asia across the Bosphorus, is set to host the latest edition of 212 Photography Istanbul from Sept. 26 to Oct. 11. Held as part of the Türkiye Cultural Route Festival, the prominent event is backed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism alongside the Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency.
This year's edition arrives as the photography world marks 200 years since the medium's invention, and the festival's program reflects that milestone.
Organizers note the bicentennial offers a unique opportunity to examine how photographic images are created, preserved, transformed, and the lasting impressions they leave behind.
The program brings together exhibitions, talks, artist meetings, workshops and special projects, drawing international photographers and a range of curatorial approaches to audiences in the city
Since its founding in 2018, 212 Photography Istanbul has developed into a major multidisciplinary platform. Each year, it stages exhibitions and events along curated routes on both sides of the city, growing into one of Istanbul's largest annual cultural events featuring both international and emerging Turkish artists.
Several of Istanbul's most architecturally and historically significant venues will host exhibitions for this edition. Featured sites include the Tophane-i Amire Culture and Art Center, Galata Greek School, 212 Studio, Akaretler, the Old Post House (Eski Posta Han), St. Benoit Church, Yapi Kredi Bomontiada, Taksim Sanat, and the Institut Francais.
Additional festival programming—including talks, film screenings, and book signings—will take place at Minoa, the Pera Museum, and Soho House.
