Elcin Sangu and Ertan Saban will star in "Cevher," a Turkish adaptation of the U.S. series "High Potential," the network Show TV announced after several departures drew attention to the production before it reached the screen.
Sangu will play the title character, marking her first role on national television in four years. Saban will play police inspector Mert Kara.
The announcement followed a turbulent run for the project. Actress Ozgu Namal and director Neslihan Yesilyurt both left the series, and Songul Oden, who had been in talks for the lead role, did not join the cast.
Sangu is best known for playing Defne in "Kiralik Ask" and has appeared in several other projects since. Saban has appeared in "Gelsin Hayat Bildigi Gib"” and "Kotu Kan."
Like the original, "Cevher" centers on a woman with exceptional intelligence who helps police solve crimes. In the Turkish version, Cevher is a mother of three with an IQ of 160. Her life changes course when she notices a critical detail in a murder case that no one else caught.
Her unconventional manner brings her into contact with Kara, and over time she takes on an important role in solving complex crimes. As she uncovers other people’s secrets, she is also forced to confront truths from her own past.
The series blends comedy, crime drama and emotional storylines, centered on two characters with very different personalities.
Oner Arslanel is producing the series, and Yuksel Aksu will direct. Burcu Yilmaz wrote the screenplay. The production company is Fabrika Yapim. No premiere date has been announced, though Show TV said the series will air soon.
