Norwegian singer-songwriter Marie Ulven Ringheim, known as Girl in Red, has announced a new single titled "Blue," set for release Friday, Oct. 9, under the name "Girl in Blue."
The announcement follows a week of color changes that had fans speculating.
Her Instagram handle changed to @girlinblue, and her website moved from worldinred.com to worldinblue.com. She also posted a photo of herself against a blue background captioned "felt blue, might delete later."
The changes began when the red sweater on the cover of her 2018 song "We Fell in Love in October" was swapped for a blue one. At the time, fans debated online whether the change meant something, but no explanation was given.
"We Fell in Love in October" tends to resurface each fall, so the timing is notable. Ringheim released a companion track, "October Passed Me By," in 2022.
Ringheim rose to prominence with homemade bedroom pop songs about romance and mental health. Her most recent album, "I'm Doing It Again Baby!" was released in April 2024 through Columbia Records.
Details about the single, including whether an album is planned, have not been announced.
