Kazakhstan's Abay National Opera and Ballet Theatre brought "Spartacus" to the stage at the Aspendos Ancient Theatre in Antalya as part of the 33rd Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival in southern Türkiye.
The Kazakh company joined the festival program with the ballet, which follows gladiator Spartacus and his struggle for freedom during an uprising against the Roman Empire.
Performed against the backdrop of the Aspendos Ancient Theatre, the production combined its music and choreography to bring the story of the rebel gladiator to the festival audience.
The Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival is organized by the State Opera and Ballet General Directorate under Türkiye's Culture and Tourism Ministry.
State Opera and Ballet General Director Baris Salcan described "Spartacus" as one of the most spectacular works in the ballet repertoire, built around the freedom story of the gladiator who rose up against Rome.
Salcan also said the festivals had continued to grow in recent years and outlined plans that could reshape the Aspendos event in the future.
"If it can be realized next year, we want to spread the Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival across the summer season rather than limiting it to a particular day or week," Salcan said.
The proposal would extend the festival's programming over a longer period, although Salcan indicated that the plan remained dependent on whether it could be carried out next year.
