Olivia Rodrigo released her first original Christmas song Thursday night, an upbeat single about wanting real commitment in the middle of the holiday season.
The song, "take me home (4 christmas)," was released the evening of Nov. 5. It was produced by Dan Nigro, who wrote it with Rodrigo and Amy Allen. The single comes out through Interscope Records.
The song arrives with a music video starring actor Cynthia Nixon and comedian Ben Marshall.
In the video, Marshall plays Rodrigo’s boyfriend, and Nixon plays his mother. It shows the trio chopping wood and building gingerbread houses while Rodrigo performs with a guitar under strings of lights.
Fans online have praised the song’s 1980s-inspired sound and the playful in-laws setup. Many have called it one of the most fun Christmas releases of the year.
Rodrigo announced the song on Instagram, saying she was "so excited" about her first Christmas release.
The singer has performed holiday music before, but this is her first original Christmas single.
The release follows her October remix of Chappell Roan’s "expectations," which jumped from No. 63 to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in its first week.
