Nobel Prize-winning author Orhan Pamuk will release a new work titled 'Kelimeler ve Resimler—Secme Hatiralar, Yazilar ve Bir Hikaye' (Words and Images—Selected Memories, Essays and a Story) on June 4, published by Yapi Kredi Publishing.

The book brings together selected memoirs, essays and a narrative piece in which Pamuk reflects on his literary career, personal history and artistic development. Spanning different periods of his life, the volume includes recollections from his military service, his early publishing experiences, and his evolving engagement with both literature and visual art.

The work also revises and reorganizes essays previously published in various journals, bringing them together in a unified structure for the first time.

Literary memory and artistic encounters

A significant portion of the book focuses on the relationship between writing and visual expression, a recurring theme in Pamuk’s work. The author draws on his personal experiences to examine how literary creation intersects with painting and photography.

The book further includes accounts of Pamuk’s interactions with prominent cultural figures, including photographer Ara Guler, novelist Umberto Eco, writer Paul Auster and artist Anselm Kiefer.

From 'Museum of Innocence' to personal archive

Another section revisits Pamuk’s novel 'The Museum of Innocence' and the subsequent establishment of the Museum of Innocence in Istanbul, detailing the development of the project from literary concept to physical museum space.

The volume also incorporates previously unpublished photographs and drawings from Pamuk’s personal archive.

These materials cover various stages of his life, including his time at Columbia University and his participation in international cultural events such as the Cannes Film Festival.
