"Stranger Things" star Sadie Sink won the public-voted Best West End Debut Performer award at The Stage Debut Awards for her role as Juliet in Robert Icke's "Romeo & Juliet" at London's Harold Pinter Theatre.
The Stage's shortlist entry for the category described her Juliet as fragile, tense and highly strung.
Her co-star Noah Jupe, who played Romeo, was also on the shortlist. Unable to attend the London ceremony, Sink sent a video message in which she said she loved working on the West End and hoped to return soon.
Directed and adapted by Olivier Award winner Robert Icke, the production ran at the Harold Pinter Theatre from March. A digital clock counts down the minutes onstage to heighten the story's themes of time and fate. Pivotal scenes also play out differently before a flash of light resets the action and the tragedy takes its familiar course, an approach reviewers likened to the film "Sliding Doors."
It was the West End debut for both Sink and Jupe. The run was originally set to end on June 6 but was extended by two weeks because of demand, closing on June 20.
Sink made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Jean Grey in "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," which opened July 31 with Tom Holland, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon.
The role marks a major franchise expansion for the actress, building on her breakout work as Max Mayfield in Netflix's "Stranger Things" and her dramatic turn opposite Brendan Fraser in Darren Aronofsky’s "The Whale" (2022).
Sink has also continued to broaden her stage and production credits, taking on the London stage production alongside her work behind the camera as an executive producer for the screen adaptation of "John Proctor Is the Villain."
Next, the actress is set to star in Hiro Murai's television adaptation of Jeffrey Eugenides’s novel "The Marriage Plot."
