The Winter Festival held in Uzungol, a major tourism destination in the Caykara district of Trabzon, officially began with cultural and recreational events.
The Uzungol Winter Festival, organized under the coordination of the Trabzon Governorship in cooperation with the Metropolitan Municipality and the Trabzon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, opened with a torch-lit procession. Participants marched with flares to the concert area, drawing attention from visitors and local residents.
Local people wearing traditional costumes joined the procession to celebrate “Kalandar,” the first month of the new year according to the Rumi calendar, filling the streets with color.
Festival Coordinator Erhan Eroglu stated that the event received strong public interest from the first day. The program includes performances by local artists, traditional horon dances, as well as winter activities such as snowball games and skiing.
The festival is supported by the Caykara District Governorship and Municipality, the Trabzon Union of Tradesmen and Craftsmen, the Eastern Black Sea Development Agency, the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, and the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TURSAB). The Uzungol Winter Festival will continue until Jan. 25.
