Cakir, the humanoid robot of Samsun Metropolitan Municipality, welcomed visitors and gave out promotional brochures at the Samsun Book Fair in Türkiye.

A humanoid robot is a machine built to resemble the human body.

The municipality organized the fair at its Fair and Congress Center, a venue for fairs and congresses in Samsun, a city on Türkiye’s Black Sea coast.

Touring the book stands, Cakir drew particular attention from children. The robot entertained them with its dance moves.

Technology meets books

Mukaddes Koc, who works at the Bilim Samsun (Science Samsun) center under the Samsun Metropolitan Municipality, said they took part in the book fair with the humanoid robot. Bilim Samsun is the municipality’s science center.

Noting that, as the Samsun Metropolitan Municipality, they aim to place technology at the center of daily life and education, Koc said: “Bringing together the knowledge offered by books and the technology of this age has been a very inspiring experience for our fellow citizens as well. We continue our work with a vision of a Samsun that is rooted in its culture and leads the way to the future with technology.”

Ali Ihsan Bayrak, who visited the fair, emphasized that technology has reached incredible levels in recent years, saying: “We are heading toward a time when it’s said, ‘The day will come when robots replace humans.’ Seeing it here, one can understand that this could actually happen.”
