Meet Pakize: The cat who became a school’s latest student

Three years ago, during a rainy day in Adana’s Seyhan district, a tiny kitten took shelter in Martyr Alper Ocay Anadolu High School. What started as a small act of kindness 'feeding the drenched little cat' has turned into a heartwarming story. 

Today, Pakize the cat isn’t just a visitor; she’s officially the school’s 470th student, beloved by everyone. 

Every morning, Pakize arrives promptly, as if she’s ready for roll call. She strolls gracefully through the hallways, checks on students, and sometimes even pops into classrooms during lessons. Smart, obedient, and surprisingly well-behaved for a cat, Pakize knows when it’s time to explore and when it’s time to step back. 

Teachers say she’s more than a pet, she’s part of the school routine, helping create a warm, lively atmosphere that students adore.

Pakize’s presence has more than just made the school fun, she’s teaching life lessons. Students are developing compassion, empathy, and a love for animals simply by interacting with her. Principal Cigdem Celikcan affectionately says, 

“We have 469 students, and our 470th student is Pakize.” She’s helping shape a generation of kind, caring young people, all through simple acts of friendship, play, and attention.

During the semester break, the school gave Pakize a special report card, and it was nothing short of adorable. Her attendance? Perfect. Behavior? Excellent. Academic performance? Top-notch! While she may not write essays or solve math problems, Pakize excels in charm, curiosity, and friendship, qualities every student can aspire to. 

She has become a symbol of positivity, inspiring both students and teachers with her dedication to being a “good student.”

Teacher Halil Ibrahim Arslanhan shared how special Pakize has become for the students. She attends school every single day and never misses a lesson, quickly earning her place as the school’s beloved mascot. 

Her presence has helped students develop compassion, kindness, and a love for animals. Always well-behaved, Pakize never disturbs classes and is a constant presence year-round. 

Whether it’s popping up on a desk, curling up next to students during class, or enjoying her snack time, Pakize brings energy and joy wherever she goes. Students Elanur and Salih note that lessons feel more lively with her around. 

Her playful antics, gentle purrs, and cheerful presence make learning fun and memorable. Pakize has truly transformed the school environment, proving that sometimes, the smallest students can make the biggest difference.
