Students trained under Türkiye's TUBITAK 2202 Science Olympiads Program have won a combined 19 medals across four major international olympiads covering mathematics, biology, chemistry and physics, Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacir announced.
Minister Kacir issued a written statement regarding the students who won medals at the international olympiads.
Noting that Turkish students continue to return from international science olympiads with medals, Kacir said, "This is our nation's source of pride. At the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad, held in Shanghai, China, where 666 students from 117 countries competed, our students won 1 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals."
He also said that: ''At the 37th International Biology Olympiad, held in Vilnius, Lithuania, where 302 students from 78 countries competed, our students won 2 gold and 2 silver medals.''
At the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad, held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where more than 360 students from 93 countries competed, Turkish students won 4 silver medals, and at the 56th International Physics Olympiad, held in Bucaramanga, Colombia, where 381 students from 87 countries competed, they won 5 silver medals.
The minister then proceeded to congratulate all of the students, who made the nation proud by successfully representing Türkiye.
According to the statement, all six students who represented Türkiye at the competition in China won medals. Among the students trained under the program by TUBITAK BIDEB (the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye's science education support unit), Umut Kagan Yazgan won a gold medal, while Ege Akgun, Mustafa Dortluoglu and Tugra Ozbey Eratli won silver medals, and Alperen Inan and Selim Dogan won bronze medals.
In Lithuania, Ahmet Alp Alaftargil and Ahsen Sena Girgin claimed gold medals, while Cagan Gurel and Bilal Bostan won silver medals.
In Uzbekistan, students Arda Yazicioglu, Bahri Eren Sarikaya, Kaan Dogan and Mustafa Efe Cesur, all supported by TUBITAK, delivered strong performances to win silver medals.
In Colombia, Eren Akarsu, Mert Andac Karan, Ruzgar Kusakli, Senol Tarhan and Yigit Koca won silver medals, once again demonstrating Türkiye's strength in the basic sciences on the international stage.
