Ten Bayraktar K2 kamikaze drones developed by Baykar completed an autonomous swarm and formation flight in a new test, doubling the number of drones involved compared to earlier tests conducted with five aircraft.
According to Baykar chairman Selcuk Bayraktar's statement on X, the K2 kamikaze drones maintained their positions within the swarm through autonomy algorithms, moving in a coordinated manner.
Footage shared by the company showed all 10 platforms taking off simultaneously and flying in different formations.
The first tests of the K2 kamikaze drone's smart swarm autonomy were conducted in March 2026 at the Kesan Flight Training and Test Center in Edirne.
During those tests, five K2 kamikaze drones flew together over the Gulf of Saros for two days in right-echelon, line, and V formations. In a separate demonstration event in April 2026, five K2 kamikaze drones were joined by 10 Sivrisinek loitering munitions, also developed by Baykar.
That demonstration, which also involved the Bayraktar TB2, Bayraktar TB3 and Bayraktar Akinci unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV), concluded with a total of 18 aircraft coming together in a V formation.
According to Baykar's own technical specifications, the K2 is described as a next-generation platform developed indigenously by the company, featuring artificial intelligence and autonomy capabilities.
The company describes it as the largest platform in its class, with a maximum takeoff weight of 800 kilograms, a warhead payload capacity exceeding 200 kilograms, a range of more than 2,000 kilometers, and an endurance of over 13 hours.
According to Baykar, the system features line-of-sight (LOS) and beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) data link capabilities, an electro-optical/infrared gimbal camera system, visual target-lock capability, and the ability to operate in GNSS-denied environments.
Baykar lists the K2's advanced features as including GNSS-independent position estimation via visual matching, adaptive intelligent route generation based on environmental conditions, autonomous emergency management in the event of thrust loss, swarm operation capability, and both coordinate-based and visual-target dive attack modes.
According to the company's published specifications, the K2 has a service ceiling of 10,000 feet, an operational altitude of 8,000 feet, an operational range exceeding 2,000 kilometers, a communication range of more than 100 kilometers line-of-sight (with beyond-line-of-sight as an option), an endurance of more than 13 hours, a cruise speed of 70 knots and a maximum speed of 110 knots.
It has a payload capacity of 200 kilograms, is capable of autonomous takeoff, landing, cruise and taxiing, and is compatible with TB2, TB3 and Akinci datalinks.
The platform is powered by a 100-horsepower internal combustion engine, with a wingspan of 10 meters, a length of 5.1 meters and a height of 2.1 meters.
