President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, with the two leaders discussing bilateral relations as well as regional and global developments, according to a statement shared on the social media account of the Turkish Presidency's Directorate of Communications.

Erdogan told Pezeshkian that ongoing conflict in the region had cast a shadow over the Eid al-Adha holiday, but expressed confidence that the Iranian people would overcome this difficult period and reach safety. He also extended his Eid al-Adha congratulations to the Iranian president.

Türkiye reaffirms commitment to regional diplomacy

The Turkish president underlined that Türkiye is working alongside brotherly nations to achieve peace and stability, and pledged that Ankara would continue to provide full support for negotiations to reach a positive outcome.

Eid al-Adha, one of Islam's most important holidays, marks the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God and is observed by Muslims worldwide with prayers and gatherings.

Türkiye has in recent years positioned itself as an active mediator in regional disputes, including efforts related to conflicts in the broader Middle East. Ankara maintains diplomatic channels with multiple parties across the region and has consistently advocated for negotiated settlements.

Türkiye and Iran, despite differing positions on several regional conflicts, maintain significant bilateral trade and coordinate on issues including border security and energy. The two countries are both members of the Astana process, a diplomatic framework focused on the Syrian conflict that also includes Russia.

The statement on the call was released via the Presidency's official communications channels. No statement from the Iranian side was immediately referenced in the source material.
