Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone call late Monday with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss bilateral ties and regional and global developments, Türkiye’s Communications Directorate said.
During the call, Erdogan said it was important to make maximum use of diplomacy in tensions between Iran and the United States.
He said Türkiye hoped talks would continue and that Ankara would keep supporting peace efforts, according to the directorate.
Erdogan also told Trump that the Joint Defense Agreement signed with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia demonstrated a strong stance toward ensuring regional stability and security.
The agreement was signed last week by Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan in Mecca.
On Gaza, Erdogan said that at a time when the goal is to move to the second phase of the peace process, there has been an increase in actions by the Israeli government targeting Palestinians, it added.
He added that “Türkiye will continue to support lasting peace in the region and steps to be taken for the reconstruction of Gaza,” according to the statement.
