Mehmet Simsek, Türkiye's Treasury and Finance Minister, denied on Thursday that he was stepping down from his post, dismissing circulating reports of his resignation as unfounded.
In a post on X, Simsek wrote, "Resignation claims being circulated about me are baseless. This kind of speculative reporting, aimed at our country's economic stability, should not be given credence."
The statement came in direct response to rumors that had spread across social media and various news outlets suggesting Simsek intended to leave his position.
He offered no further elaboration beyond the post, which addressed the claims without providing additional detail on their origin.
Türkiye's Presidential Communications Directorate, through its Disinformation Combat Center, also weighed in, stating that social media posts claiming Simsek had submitted his resignation or requested to do so did not reflect reality.
The center said legal proceedings were underway against individuals and accounts it accused of spreading the claims in an effort to mislead the public and financial markets, and it urged that such posts, which it said were intended to manipulate economic stability, not be given credence.
Similar reports about Simsek's potential departure had circulated before. The Disinformation Combat Center previously refuted comparable claims in March 2025, according to news reports.
Simsek has served as Treasury and Finance Minister since June 2023, a period during which the government has pursued a broader economic stabilization program.
