Heavy rainfall flooded homes and businesses in Bodrum, a popular coastal resort district in southwestern Türkiye, and swept a car into the sea as meteorological authorities warned of further downpours across eight western and southern provinces on Nov. 2-3.
The storm, which began Sunday evening, Nov. 1, and intensified overnight, brought 46 millimeters (1.8 inches) of rain to Bodrum, flooding 17 homes and three businesses across nine neighborhoods.
The Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM) issued fresh warnings for heavy rainfall, flash floods and possible waterspouts in coastal areas as unsettled weather continued to affect western Türkiye.
The downpour hit several parts of Bodrum, particularly Yalikavak, Turkbuku, Gundogan and Mazi, leaving streets underwater and disrupting traffic.
In Mazi, rising water levels in the Hurma Stream swept a car into the sea, prompting a response from Türkiye's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), firefighters and municipal search-and-rescue teams.
Emergency crews began working to recover the vehicle, while municipal teams pumped water out of flooded buildings and cleared affected roads.
Elsewhere, heavy rainfall caused a retaining wall to collapse in Yalikavak, while a car overturned on Deveci Salih Street. Authorities secured hazardous areas and continued drainage operations, allowing several roads to reopen.
The latest flooding followed another round of severe weather that struck Mugla province on Oct. 28, affecting Bodrum, Marmaris and Dalaman.
In Marmaris, 47 millimeters of rainfall sent rocks tumbling onto roads connecting the district with Datca and Mentese.
In Dalaman, the overflowing Tersakan Stream flooded homes, businesses and agricultural land, forcing temporary road closures. A landslide also disrupted traffic along the Koycegiz-Ortaca highway.
Storm damage extended beyond Mugla, with severe weather affecting Antalya and Mersin along Türkiye's Mediterranean coast.
In Antalya's Demre district, adverse weather on Oct. 29 damaged 145 hectares (about 358 acres) of greenhouse farmland and 26 homes.
Meanwhile, heavy rain flooded streets and ground floors of buildings in Mersin, temporarily shutting down an underpass in the Akdeniz district. Municipal crews later cleared the water and reopened the road, although rainfall also disrupted transportation in Gulnar and Bozyazi.
As emergency crews dealt with the aftermath, MGM warned that additional heavy rainfall could hit several western provinces.
For Monday, Nov. 2, local downpours were forecast in Izmir, Aydin and western Balikesir, while rainfall in Antalya was expected to spread from western districts toward the city center and eastern areas during the afternoon.
The agency also forecast heavy rain for Tuesday, Nov. 3, in Izmir, Aydin, Mugla, Canakkale and Edirne, as well as western Manisa and Balikesir.
Including Antalya's separate warning, eight provinces face a risk of locally heavy rainfall during the two-day period.
Meteorological authorities cautioned that the storms could bring flash floods, waterlogging, lightning, localized hail and strong winds, while coastal areas could also experience waterspouts, which are tornado-like rotating columns of air forming over water.
Residents were advised to stay away from streambeds and flood-prone areas, while drivers were urged to follow updated weather and road warnings as further transportation disruptions remain possible.
