A new wave of drug operations targeting celebrities has been launched in Istanbul. Famous figures, including pop singer Aleyna Tilki, social media phenomenon Danla Bilic, and actress Irem Sak, were detained, while authorities failed to locate three other suspects at their addresses.
The Istanbul Public Prosecutor's Office initiated the operation based on "reasonable suspicion" of drug use among well-known public figures.
Istanbul Gendarmerie Command teams conducted simultaneous raids on seven different addresses in the districts of Sariyer, Eyup, Sisli, Uskudar, Bakirkoy, and Esenyurt starting at 7 a.m. on Dec. 18.
During the search at the home of suspect Mumine Senna Yildiz, authorities seized 5 grams of cannabis and a grinder. While Yildiz, Aleyna Tilki, Danla Bilic, and Irem Sak were taken into custody, suspects Melisa Dongel, Yusuf Guney, and Cihan Sensozlu could not be found at their registered addresses.
This incident follows a broader crackdown on drug use in the entertainment industry. Last October, 19 celebrities, including Dilan Polat, Hadise Acikgoz, Irem Derici, and Ozge Ozpirincci, were taken to the Gendarmerie Command to provide statements and blood samples before being released.
However, the legal consequences have been more severe for others. Haberturk Editor-in-Chief Mehmet Akif Ersoy and presenter Ela Rumeysa Cebeci were recently arrested and sent to prison after their drug tests returned positive results.
