Türkiye holds 1st meeting of terror-free Türkiye National Solidarity Commission

The first meeting of the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission, established within the framework of the “Terror-Free Türkiye” initiative in the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM), has concluded.

The commission will reconvene on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. (GMT +3).

The commission meeting was held under the leadership of Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus. In the meeting, the official name of the commission was confirmed as the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission, and its procedures and principles were unanimously approved.

Commission's name finalized

According to a statement posted on the official social media account of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, the commission was formed under the vision of a “Terror-Free Türkiye”. The objective is to strengthen national unity, enhance brotherhood, and evaluate necessary actions in areas such as freedom, democracy, and the rule of law.

The statement noted that the first session of the commission was held on August 5, 2025, chaired by Speaker Numan Kurtulmus.

The announcement emphasized:

“The commission will closely follow this historic period in which our country has a unique opportunity. It will play a role in making peace permanent. Additionally, it will identify needed legal reforms, work on draft legislation, and ensure that the public is well informed about this process. During the meeting, representatives from political party groups — including those without parliamentary groups — shared their views on the process and the commission’s importance. The commission’s procedures and principles were unanimously adopted.”

The second meeting of the commission will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 14:00 in the Ceremony Hall of the Turkish Grand National Assembly.

Ministers and intelligence chief invited

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, Minister of National Defense Yasar Guler, and National Intelligence Organization (MIT) Director Ibrahim Kalin have been invited to attend the next session. They will brief the commission on institutional activities and current developments.

It was underlined that official updates about the commission’s work will be made exclusively by the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.
