The Turkish Ministry of National Defense (MoND) responded to questions about Greece's agreement with the Chevron-Hellenic Energy consortium for hydrocarbon exploration south of the Peloponnese and Crete on Thursday.
"Greece's unilateral activities with international companies in hydrocarbon fields south of Crete do not directly affect our country's maritime jurisdiction areas, but they constitute a violation of international law and good neighborly relations," the ministry said in its weekly press briefing.
The ministry said these activities contradict the 2019 Maritime Jurisdiction Areas Memorandum of Understanding between Türkiye and Libya and Libya's maritime jurisdiction areas notified to the United Nations on May 27, 2025.
"We oppose this unlawful activity being attempted contrary to these agreements. We continue to provide the necessary support for Libyan authorities to take initiatives against Greece's unilateral and unlawful activities," the ministry noted.
Türkiye expects the integration process between the Syrian government and SDF to be completed rapidly and is taking all necessary measures to protect its interests, the Defense Ministry said.
"We expect the integration process between the Syrian government and SDF to be completed quickly. We are closely monitoring developments on the ground and taking all necessary measures in line with our country's interests," the ministry added.
"We remind that there is no alternative other than the integration being carried out in a way that strengthens Syria's unitary structure and the principle of one state, one army," the MoND stated.
The ministry confirmed that the Turkish Armed Forces continue to provide training, advisory, and support activities for security and stability in Somalia.
"We continue to ensure the security of drilling activities and the 'Spaceport and Test Launch Site' built in Somalia, and to provide maximum support to counterterrorism operations conducted by the Somali National Army," the ministry said.
"The Turkish Armed Forces will maintain effective deterrence with its presence and support in Somalia."
The ministry said views were exchanged with an Airbus delegation on strengthening the existing partnership to enhance aviation capabilities and potential areas of cooperation.
"As part of the Eurofighter Typhoon procurement project, a study visit will be conducted to Coningsby Air Base Command in the United Kingdom between Feb.24 and 27 for the initial training of flight and ground personnel," the ministry also announced.
Ministry spokesman Rear Admiral Zeki Akturk stated that the Israeli government's recent decision to impose sovereignty and expand settlement activities in the occupied West Bank is "a clear violation of international law in every respect."
"We emphasize that this decision is null and void. We invite the international community to take a determined stance against Israel's attempts to create facts on the ground in Palestinian territories," he stated.
"We once again emphasize that Israel's ceasefire violations and disruption of humanitarian aid harm the peace process and deepen instability in the region," he concluded.
