Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced Saturday that 692 traffic accidents occurred on the first day of the Eid al-Adha holiday in Türkiye, resulting in seven fatalities and 1,128 injuries.
Speaking via social media, Yerlikaya said traffic inspections are ongoing amid the holiday travel period.
According to data from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, over 2.2 million vehicles used Türkiye’s highways on the first day of the holiday.
Yerlikaya added that authorities carried out speed and radar checks on 12,407 drivers on that day.
He praised the 99.44% of drivers who adhered to traffic rules, saying, “I thank each and every one of the drivers who did not speed and followed the traffic regulations.”
