Kyiv was attacked by Russian missiles and drones on Monday.
At least 11 people were killed and more than 60 wounded by the attacks, according to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian President.
"Russia launched 68 missiles and 351 attack drones" and damaged more than 10 locations across the city, including residential buildings, Zelenskyy said on X.
Zelenskyy added that more than 60 people, including 2 children, were rescued from fires caused by attacks.
Drawing attention to the timing of the attack, which took place ahead of America’s Independence Day and the NATO Summit in Ankara, Zelenskyy also stated that Russia was preparing a new attack.
Zelenskyy called on NATO countries, particularly the United States and European nations, to provide assistance with air defense.
Russia's Defense Ministry confirmed the overnight strike and evaluated this as a response to Ukrainian "terrorist attacks" on civilians in Russia.
The ministry also stated the strike targeted military locations and fuel and energy facilities.
The residents living in the area have been trying to rescue people from the damaged buildings. Local authorities are also helping them with gear and vehicles.
