Two people were killed Friday when a bomb exploded outside a courthouse in Hasakah, northeastern Syria, the country’s state broadcaster reported.
Alikhbariah TV said internal security forces cordoned off the area and opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the explosion.
The broadcaster provided no further details about the identities of the victims or the nature of the blast.
No group had claimed responsibility for the explosion as of 8:30 a.m. GMT.
The explosion came a day after Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa appointed former SDF/YPG ringleader Mazloum Abdi as an adviser, according to the SANA state news agency.
Sharaa issued a decree Thursday appointing Abdi to the position of “adviser to the Presidency of the Republic,” SANA reported.
Abdi announced Tuesday the dissolution of the SDF/YPG terror organization at a news conference.
The Syrian administration and the YPG reached an agreement on Jan. 29 providing for a ceasefire and the group’s gradual integration into state institutions.
Abdi previously served as head of the SDF/YPG terrorist group.
