Echoes of an explosion were reportedly heard Sunday in the Syrian capital, Damascus, in what is believed to have been caused by an improvised explosive device (IED), according to local media.
Sky News Arabia reported that its correspondent in Damascus heard the blast, which occurred in the city earlier in the day.
Al-Mayadeen reported that the explosion was heard near the Four Seasons Hotel in central Damascus.
Early reports indicated that no one was killed or injured in the explosion.
Syrian security forces quickly cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the incident.
No statement has yet been made by official sources.
The blast came as preparations were underway in Umayyad Square to celebrate the anniversary of the fall of the ousted regime.
