Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it turned back three container ships attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz and declared restrictions on vessels linked to U.S. and Israeli allies, according to statements carried by Iranian media.
The IRGC said the ships, of different nationalities, were warned by its navy and forced to reverse course after attempting to enter a designated transit corridor.
In a statement published by Sepah News, the IRGC said the incident followed what it described as “lies” by the U.S. president, claiming the Strait of Hormuz was open.
“This morning, three container ships of different nationalities were turned back after a warning from the IRGC Navy,” the statement said.
Iran’s Mehr news agency also reported that the vessels were prevented from transiting the strait.
The IRGC said the strait is closed and warned that any attempt to pass through would face a “firm” or “hard” response.
The IRGC said movement of any vessel “to or from” ports belonging to allies and supporters of what it described as “Zionist-American enemies” is prohibited.
“The movement of any vessel ‘to and from’ ports of origin belonging to allies and supporters of the Zionist-American enemies, to any destination and through any corridor, is prohibited,” the statement said.
It added that any such transit through the Strait of Hormuz would be met with a strong response.
