Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Monday that the United States bears responsibility for implementing the Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tehran and called for Israeli attacks on Lebanon to stop.

Araghchi made the remarks during separate phone calls with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, according to Iran’s state news agency IRNA.

During the conversations, Araghchi and his counterparts also stressed the need to sustain diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting regional stability and security, the report said.

U.S. President Donald Trump declared on Sunday that a peace agreement with Iran had been completed, saying it includes an end to hostilities across all fronts, including Lebanon, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade on Iran.

Pakistan, Japan welcome understanding

Separately, Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi welcomed the understanding reached between Washington and Tehran during a telephone conversation on Monday.

The two ministers noted the agreement’s “significance for regional stability and the broader international community,” according to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry.

Motegi also conveyed Japan’s “deep appreciation and commendation for Pakistan’s sustained mediating role and constructive efforts throughout the process, which helped facilitate and advance the outcome achieved.”

According to Japan’s Foreign Ministry, Motegi stressed the importance of steadily implementing the MoU, ensuring safe and uninterrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and reaching a final agreement on Iran’s nuclear program as soon as possible.

He added that Japan would continue supporting the diplomatic efforts of Pakistan and other mediating countries.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced early Monday that the United States and Iran had reached an agreement following intensive negotiations, with both sides declaring an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations across all fronts, including Lebanon.
