Iran on Friday threatened to target recreational and tourist sites worldwide and said it continues to develop its missile capabilities, according to an Associated Press report.
Iran’s top military spokesman, Gen. Abolfazl Shekarchi, warned that “parks, recreational areas and tourist destinations” would no longer be safe for Tehran’s enemies.
“From now on, based on the information we have about you, even parks, recreational areas and tourist destinations anywhere in the world will no longer be safe for you,” Shekarchi said in a statement published by Iranian state television.
The remarks come as Iran faces ongoing U.S. and Israeli airstrikes.
The warning has raised concerns among analysts that Iran could expand its response beyond the Middle East by resorting to militant attacks abroad as a pressure tactic.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Friday that Tehran would show “zero restraint” if its infrastructure is attacked.
“We have intelligence on Israeli plans to strike infrastructure. Once again: Zero restraint if our infrastructure is attacked,” Araghchi wrote on X.
“The Iranian people are men and women of principles,” he added. “Iranians do not sneak attack adversaries while engaged in dialogue. Only when attacked do we powerfully respond.”
In a video shared by Araghchi, U.S. President Donald Trump said he believed Iran had planned to attack the United States.
“If we didn't do this at the time we did it, I think they had in mind to attack us,” Trump said.
Hostilities have escalated since the United States and Israel launched joint attacks on Iran on Feb. 28, killing around 1,300 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, according to Iranian authorities.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting U.S. military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.
