At least 1,937 people have been killed in Iran since the start of the war, according to figures provided by an Iranian health official on Thursday.
Iran’s Deputy Health Minister Ali Jafarian told Al Jazeera that the toll includes 240 women and 212 children, reflecting the impact of the conflict on civilians.
Jafarian said more than 24,800 people have been wounded so far in the war.
He added that the injured include around 4,000 women and 1,621 children.
The figures were shared in remarks to Al Jazeera on Thursday, providing one of the latest available assessments of casualties in Iran.
Iran has not issued official death toll updates in recent days, with the latest figures coming from statements by the deputy health minister.
Regional escalation has continued to flare since the U.S. and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran on Feb. 28, killing so far over 1,900 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, along with Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting U.S. military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.
