Iran and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to “turn the page” and look toward rebuilding relations after tensions linked to the Middle East war, Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian said Sunday.
Pezeshkian made the remarks a day after meeting Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan in India on the sidelines of the BRICS summit.
“For the first time since the war and the incidents that occurred in the Persian Gulf, we had a constructive exchange with the crown prince of Abu Dhabi,” Pezeshkian said.
“It was agreed that we would turn the page, look to the future and build it together.”
Relations between Tehran and Abu Dhabi worsened after U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran in February triggered the Middle East war.
Iran later retaliated against U.S. allies in the region, with the UAE among the countries heavily affected.
In August, the UAE announced it was suspending trade and financial exchanges with Iran.
Dubai, the UAE’s largest city, is home to a longstanding Iranian community and serves as an important economic lifeline for Iran.
Tehran continues to face pressure from U.S. and international sanctions.
