Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps vowed Monday to “immediately repel” any U.S. ground incursion, saying its ground forces were at the highest level of readiness to counter hostile infiltration into Iranian territory.
Brig. Gen. Rouhollah Nouri, deputy commander of the IRGC Ground Forces, made the remarks during a ceremony honoring air defense forces in the northeastern city of Shahroud, according to statements carried by the semi-official Tasnim news agency.
“The IRGC Ground Forces, particularly the defense units, are at the highest level of readiness and will neutralize any hostile act or enemy infiltration at the very first moment,” Nouri said.
Nouri said Iran’s armed forces were maintaining continuous vigilance across all areas of operation to protect the country’s security.
“The continuous vigilance and permanent readiness of the armed forces guarantee Iran’s sustainable security, and this level of preparedness is being pursued seriously across all operational sectors,” he said.
His comments came as the U.S. continued conducting airstrikes against multiple targets in Iran, with most of the attacks focused on the country’s southern regions.
Iran responded with strikes targeting facilities and bases that Tehran says are used by the U.S. military in several countries across the region.
Explosions were reported early Monday in several Iranian provinces amid the continuing exchange of attacks.
The incidents included the first reported strike on the northwestern city of Tabriz since the U.S. launched its latest attacks against Iran last week.
The reports followed continued U.S. strikes on Iranian targets and retaliatory Iranian attacks against sites Tehran says support U.S. military operations in the region.
The latest exchange of fire came despite a Pakistan-brokered memorandum of understanding signed by Iran and the U.S. in June.
The agreement was intended to end their war and establish a lasting peace settlement between the two countries.
Hostilities have nevertheless continued, with both sides carrying out attacks.
