Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will convene his security cabinet on Thursday as tensions rise over the possibility of U.S. strikes against Iran, according to local media reports.
The meeting is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. local time (1400 GMT), The Times of Israel reported, citing Hebrew-language media.
Ministers were given relatively short notice, which the outlet described as unusual, and were not informed of the meeting’s agenda.
The reports said the lack of advance information and the timing of the meeting have drawn attention amid heightened regional tensions.
The cabinet session comes after Netanyahu recently met with Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of U.S. President Donald Trump, to discuss escalating tensions with Iran as well as the Gaza ceasefire process.
Nearly all of Israel’s senior security officials attended that meeting, according to reports.
Israel’s Channel 12 reported that Netanyahu asked Witkoff to demand that Iran transfer its highly enriched uranium to another country, end its nuclear program, halt ballistic missile production and stop funding proxy forces across the Middle East during upcoming talks with Iranian officials.
The White House said negotiations with Iran are scheduled to take place on Friday in Muscat, Oman.
