Israel’s Defense Ministry said Monday it signed a $48 million agreement with Elbit Systems to supply tens of thousands of 155 mm artillery shells, as military operations continue in Iran and Lebanon.
The agreement covers the production of the munitions at Elbit facilities across Israel, where thousands of workers are operating around the clock in three shifts under ministry direction.
The ministry said the purchase is aimed at sustaining ammunition supplies during ongoing military operations.
The deal with Elbit Systems includes tens of thousands of 155 mm artillery shells, with production taking place domestically across multiple facilities.
In addition to domestic manufacturing, Israel has received about 8,000 tons of weapons, ammunition and military equipment since Feb. 28, most of it from the U.S. and Germany.
Since Feb. 28, Israel and the U.S. have carried out attacks on Iran that have killed at least 1,340 people, including hundreds of women and children.
Israel has also expanded its attacks across Lebanon since March 2, killing at least 1,238 people and injuring 3,543 others, while more than one million people have been displaced, according to Lebanese authorities.
Iran and its ally Hezbollah have responded with missile and drone attacks on Israel, killing at least 24 people and wounding 6,008.
Iranian attacks have also killed 13 U.S. service members and injured 303 others.
Tehran has targeted U.S. bases and interests in Gulf states and Jordan, with those countries reporting civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure and condemning the attacks.
The latest agreement comes as Israel continues operations across multiple fronts while securing ammunition supplies and maintaining domestic production capacity.
