Israel’s Defense Ministry said it has signed a deal worth about $48 million with Elbit Systems to purchase tens of thousands of 155 mm artillery shells as part of efforts to strengthen military readiness during ongoing fighting.
The agreement, valued at more than NIS 150 million, will see the munitions produced at Elbit facilities across the country, which are operating at an accelerated pace to meet wartime demand.
The Defense Ministry said the purchase is part of a broader push to strengthen Israel’s domestic arms manufacturing capacity and reduce reliance on foreign suppliers.
The initiative is being led by Defense Minister Israel Katz and the ministry’s Director General Amir Baram, according to the statement.
Officials said the move reflects a wider strategy to secure supply chains amid ongoing regional conflict.
The ministry said the deal is intended to bolster the Israel Defense Forces’ readiness as fighting continues.
Production of the artillery shells will take place at multiple Elbit facilities, which have increased output to meet current operational needs.
The agreement underscores efforts by Israeli authorities to ensure sustained access to critical munitions during the conflict.
