The Israeli military announced on Monday it had begun striking Hezbollah infrastructure sites in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley in the country's east.

The airstrikes were reported as well as additional areas across southern Lebanon, expanding its offensive beyond the south for the first time during the current ceasefire, which was extended by three weeks just days ago.

Israel: 'Striking Hezbollah infrastructure in Bekaa Valley'

The Israeli army issued a brief statement on social media: "The Israeli army has begun to strike Hezbollah infrastructure sites in the Bekaa Valley and in additional areas across southern Lebanon."

No further operational details were provided.

Türkiye's state-run Anadolu Agency (AA) correspondent reported that two attacks simultaneously targeted the towns of Tibnin and Yater in southern Lebanon.

The strikes come despite a 10-day ceasefire announced by Trump on April 17 that was extended by three weeks on April 24 following ambassador-level talks at the White House.

Israel has repeatedly struck southern Lebanon during the ceasefire period. Monday's Bekaa Valley strikes mark the first confirmed extension of Israeli operations to eastern Lebanon during the current truce.
