Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan warned on Monday that Israel may be positioning Ankara as its next adversary following Iran.

He said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cannot sustain himself politically without an enemy and noted that Türkiye's balancing role in the region has made it a target for Israeli pressure.

'Netanyahu cannot sustain himself without an enemy'

Fidan made the remarks at Anadolu Agency's Editors' Desk, addressing Netanyahu's recent targeting of President Erdogan.

"Netanyahu has a complex against Erdogan and cannot digest him. Türkiye's balancing efforts keep the region at such a point that Israel cannot pull Türkiye down. This situation pushes them into instability," Fidan said.

He said Israel's regional policies were diametrically opposed to Türkiye's across multiple fronts.

"When viewed from the perspective of Syria, Gaza, and Lebanon, the extremist policies Israel has spread are diametrically opposed to Türkiye. That is why they target Türkiye. Erdogan's leadership in the world order and Türkiye's sphere of influence block the illusion Israel is trying to construct," he said.

Fidan then issued his sharpest warning by stating, "After Iran, Israel cannot live without an enemy. We see that Netanyahu may be seeking to designate Türkiye as the new adversary."
