Iranian Shahed drone attack targeted fuel storage tanks at Kuwait International Airport early Sunday, according to the Kuwaiti Armed Forces.

In a statement, the military said it responded to a wave of hostile drones that violated the country’s airspace on March 8.

Initial images show a massive fire erupting at the airport's fuel storage tanks following the attack.

The armed forces said the fuel tanks were struck in what it described as a direct attack on vital infrastructure.

Authorities did not immediately provide details on damage or casualties.

Regional tensions have escalated since the United States and Israel launched a large-scale attack on Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,000 people, including Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, over 150 schoolgirls, and senior military officials.

Iran has retaliated with sweeping barrages of its own that have targeted US bases, diplomatic facilities, and military personnel across the region, as well as multiple Israeli cities.
