The Israeli army carried out a bombing operation in the southern Lebanese town of Houla on Sunday, causing what Lebanon’s National News Agency described as a “massive explosion.”

The incident took place in the Marjeyoun district, according to NNA.

Latest attack follows strike on Majdal Zoun

Israeli forces had also carried out an attack in southern Lebanon early Wednesday, when warplanes struck the town of Majdal Zoun in the Tyre district, NNA reported.

The attacks come amid continued tensions between Israel and Lebanon following the outbreak of a new round of hostilities on March 2.

Israel has carried out extensive attacks on Lebanon since then, saying it was targeting Hezbollah, while Hezbollah responded with attacks on Israel.

The renewed fighting effectively ended a cease-fire that had been in place since November 2024.

US-mediated framework remains in place

U.S.-led diplomatic efforts resulted in a framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon in June.

The agreement provides for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from all occupied Lebanese territory in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army and the disarmament of armed groups.
