Officials in one Middle Eastern country advised officials in another regional state to pursue a tactical agreement with Israel in order to lower its guard, while preparing separately for a broader future confrontation, Israel's Kan public broadcaster reported Monday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Kan said military censorship prevented it from identifying either country involved in the exchange.
According to a foreign source who spoke with Kan News, officials in one regional country advised counterparts in another to show tactical flexibility and reach an agreement with Israel now, with the goal of "lulling" it, while simultaneously preparing for a larger confrontation against Israel.
In discussions between the two sides, the officials reportedly told their counterparts that they should pursue an agreement with Israel in order to violate it later, while war preparations proceeded in parallel, according to Kan.
The report was first disclosed Monday morning on Kan News' "HaBoker HaZeh" program on Kan Reshet Bet, based on accounts from people described as knowledgeable sources.
Since Oct. 8, 2023, Israel has waged what Palestinians describe as a genocidal war on Gaza with U.S. support, killing more than 73,000 Palestinians and injuring over 174,000, most of them women and children, while devastating about 90% of the enclave's infrastructure.
