Airstrikes struck the area around Tehran's Mehrabad airport on Tuesday as the United States and Israel pressed ahead with a sustained military campaign against Iran, now in its fourth consecutive day of bombardment.
Mehrabad, one of Iran's two major airports and the primary hub for domestic flights, became the latest target in the escalating offensive. Iran's Mehr news agency published images showing a thick column of grey smoke rising behind what appeared to be a runway at the facility, located in the western part of the capital.
The agency described the strike as an attack by "American-Zionist terrorists" on the area surrounding the airport.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israeli forces were actively conducting operations over Iranian and Lebanese airspace, framing the campaign as an ongoing and expanding effort.
"We continue to strike Iran with force. Our pilots are over the skies of Iran and Tehran, and also over the skies of Lebanon," Netanyahu said in a statement delivered from an air force base in central Israel on Tuesday.
He also turned his rhetoric toward Hezbollah, the Iran-backed Lebanese group, warning of an even fiercer response ahead. "Hezbollah made a very big mistake when it attacked us. We have already responded forcefully, and we will respond with even greater force," he said.
Mehrabad airport, situated in western Tehran, has historically served as the country's main domestic aviation gateway. It is one of only two major airports serving the Iranian capital, the other being Imam Khomeini International Airport, which handles most international traffic.
